Speaker instructions

Audience & expectations

The audience for the seminar typically consists of PhD students, postdocs, and faculty in the Berkeley security group (including the groups of Raluca Ada Popa, Henry Corrigan-Gibbs, David Wagner, Dawn Song, Sanjam Garg, and Chris Fletcher). Attendees span a range of security subareas, so please aim to make your talk accessible to a general technical computer security audience. See speaker criteria.

Talk logistics

The talk will be held 12:00-1:00 PM on Tuesday (hybrid).

  • In-person speakers: Please meet at The Gateway at 12:00 PM. Room details will be shared once confirmed.
  • Zoom link: Available in the Google Calendar invite. You must be signed in to Zoom on the device you will present from; any Zoom account is fine (it does not need to be a Berkeley account).
  • The talk will begin at Berkeley time (12:10 PM). Talks are typically interactive, so we recommend 30-40 minutes of content to allow for interleaved questions.
  • Please join the Zoom link from your computer and screen-share, so both in-person and virtual attendees can follow along.

Lunch & 1:1s

  • Lunch: We provide lunch for the seminar attendees and the speaker to chat from 1:00-2:00 PM.
  • 1:1 meetings: Optional and follow lunch for in-person speakers.
    • The schedule is in a spreadsheet (each talk has its own tab) that we share with the Berkeley security community (anyone may sign up); we can’t coordinate specific meetings, but if you’re especially interested in meeting someone, feel free to invite them to sign up in the sheet.
    • Please delete any time slots that do not work for you.
    • Default availability is 2:00-5:00 PM.
    • Room 465BA will be booked for your 1:1s all day, though we recommend taking a walk around campus for some or all of them.

Parking

We have day-parking permits available upon request. We will coordinate permit handoff details before your visit.

If you prefer, you can also park nearby; much of the surrounding street parking is free two-hour parking, so you may need to re-park after the talk. Just let us know your preference.
